I am excited about the possibilities that study in the visual arts brings for our students. The academic art program offers many opportunites for creative thinking, problem-solving, development of skills, personal expression and growth.  Engaging the adolescent mind is energizing and challenging. Teaching for creative expression and higher-order thinking guides my practice in the art room and brings personal satisfaction as I watch the growth of my students.  I look forward to working with your child as we explore possibilities and new ideas.

Wood Carving

Local artisan, Betsy Burdett, spent several days  during the week of October 24-28 working  with students teaching basic wood carving techniques.  Students carved a fish and an eight pointed star.

The traditional craft of "whittling" proved to be challenging and fun!  A big thank you to Tryon Fine Arts Center and their B.I.G. Ideas grant for making this culturally rich experience possible for our students.
